- Animation and Art -
Absolute Anime Thousands of profiles of characters and shows, as well as reviews of some non-anime topics.
Anime Project Alliance Gallery Way more galleries than we want to count, all organized by series. Most are available in both large and small resolution.
Anime Wallpapers Just what the name says. Choose from dozens of series.
the Anime Web Turnpike A staggering number of anime-related links in over 3000 categories and sub-categories.
Steve Bennett Talented anime/manga artist, co-founder of Studio Ironcat, and an all-around cool guy. Ironcat is gone, but Steve remains.
CG Shrines Image shrines to a wide variety of female anime characters. There's also a separate section that has naughty images, in the unlikely event that there are any anime fans in to that kind of thing.
Newton Ewell An extremely cool, fun guy who has been very supportive of the PCfDP music video projects. He also happens to be a spectacular artist who has some anime credits under his belt.
Fan's View This guy is nuts! He updates every night of every convention he attends... and he attends all the anime conventions in the US!
Humble Studios A Colorado artist specializing in fantasy artwork and sculptures. Check out his site, and help support your local artists.
Nan Desu Kan In their own words, "Colorado's own Japanese Animation Convention". Hard-to-beat people-watching, lots of fun in general, and a chance for humans and aliens alike to channel their creative impulses into oh, say, videos for instance.
Rule 34 Tons of fan art goodness (and badness) in compliance with Rule 34 of the Internet. If you don't know what that means, it's probably best if you don't click this.
Doug Smith Another artist who has done work we appreciate. He also keeps himself busy doing voice acting.
Ultimate Animanga Another impressive archive of images from anime and manga. Also, about half of the series listed include some basic info about concepts and characters.
- Comics -
Brewster Rockit: Space Guy If the old Flash Gordon serials were intentionally funny, they might look like this strip from Tim Rickard.
FoxTrot Bill Amend is obviously several kinds of geek -- not just in the usual fields of math, computers, and movies, but also in sports in literature as well. We respect a geek-of-all-trades.
Full Frontal Nerdity "Four geeks. No lives. Roll for initiative." Great work from Aaron Williams.
Get Fuzzy Darby Conley once described his strip as what it would really be like if pets could talk: dogs still wouldn't understand you, and cats still wouldn't care what you said.
Ink Pen The latest strip to join Rhaab's list of favorites is by Phil Dunlap. Go read it; trying to describe it wouldn't do it justice.
Kevin and Kell Bill Holbrook's nuclear fusion family: a wolf and her son, a rabbit and his adopted hedgehog daughter, and their child together -- an adorable, carnivorous baby bunny. (That's no ordinary rabbit!)
Lore Brand Comics More work by the inimitable Lore Sjoberg of Brunching Shuttlecocks fame. (See our Humor links if you don't know what that's all about.) Remember, you're somebody's fetish.
Monty The strip formerly known as "Robotman". The cast has changed a lot over the years, but Jim Meddick's humor is alive and well.
Punch an' Pie The sequel to Queen of Wands (see below).
PvP Scott Kurtz shows that working for a videogame magazine isn't all fun and, um, games.
Queen of Wands If it's wrong to be attracted to Aeire just based on the way she writes and draws "Queen of Wands", then we don't want to be right. The real world needs more women like the ladies in this comic.
RPG World Though the characters and situations created by Ian Jones-Quartey seem to be primarily based on the "Final Fantasy" series of games, anyone who has ever played any kind of RPG will find funny, familiar stuff here. Even old-fashioned dice-rattlers (like several of the PCfDP are) should stop by.
Something Positive R.K. Milholland gives us the (sometimes painful) truth about fanboys, geeks, and gamers; plus, you get cute Asian girls, excessive violence, and many of the fun kinds of evil. What more could you want?
User Friendly When it comes to geek humor, J.D. "Illiad" Frazer is Lord of the Geeks. But if you're hip enough to be here reading this, you probably knew that already.
- Humor -
the Agony Booth Detailed summaries of some of the worst movies and TV shows ever made. Be sure to check out "The Worst of Trek".
Allyn Ball We were pretty sure he was one of us, but it turns out he's a human -- a brilliant, extremely funny human. Check out the wonderfully over-the-top intro page. Take a look at Show Dates and hope like hell he's in your area some time soon.
Auggie Smith One of the great frothing ranters of our time, and an inspirational one at that. Beware of his act if you have a hard time with large doses of the truth mixed in with your comedy.
Badmovies.org Another site devoted to the joys of films that only become B-movies if graded on a curve. Features "Things I Learned From This Movie" in every review.
Brunching Shuttlecocks While they may not be adding to the Brunching Shuttlecocks site, they have archives of funny stuff spanning seven years. Lore Sjoberg was kind enough to let us borrow a catchphrase he wrote. ("Entropy and irony....")
Cap'n Wacky Lots of good stuff, but we're especially fond of the gallery of unfortunate greeting cards.
Dave Barry A really funny guy, and one of the big reasons we can't wait for you humans to develop interstellar travel. We're really looking forward to Dave Barry Does Rigel VII.
George Carlin One of the clearest thinkers on the planet, and therefore one of the funniest. If you think what you're forwarding to all your friends was written by him, stop by here and check first. Most of it isn't good enough to be George's work.
Jabootu's Bad Movie Dimension More in-depth examinations of bad movies and TV.
Joe Cartoon Home of Micro-Gerbil and Frog Blender 2000.
MC Hawking Earth's greatest living scientific mind is also one of Earth's hardest hardcore rappers -- it's a Brief History of Rhyme.
the Onion They call themselves "America's Finest News Source", and who are we to argue?
Page 2 What's so funny about sports? Go here to find out. We highly recommend the work of Bill Simmons and Stacey Pressman.
the Philosophical Revelations of Sinistar The mighty Sinistar: tyrant, murderer and insightful philosopher.
Pointless Waste of Time "The only news source you'll never need." One of our latest discoveries, and entertaining on page after page.
Pool Cleaners from Distant Planets A fun place to visit, if you don't mind all the blantant self-promotion.
Pythonline Because you've always wanted to be a lumberjack, and it's always owl-stretching time somewhere in the world. So stop pining for the fjords, put down that Spam, and come inside. (Wink wink, nudge nudge.) Note: llamas are larger than frogs.
the Satanic Hamster Dance Rodents in the service of evil!
Statue Molesters People with cameras and too much time on their hands. And if we say someone has too much time on their hands, it must be true.
the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives These institutions have been a source of laughs for over two centuries. Actually, with comedy this uproarious, it might be better to say that they have been a source of "laffs" instead.
- Miscellaneous -
Douglas Adams The official site of the late SF/humor writer. It includes, among other things, the vintage Infocom text-adventure game, playable online for free.
Alien Perspective The online home of author Wynette A. Hoffman, a personal friend of the Pool Cleaners -- and not just for her website's name.
the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster The only One True Religion endorsed by the Pool Cleaners from Distant Planets.
the Church of the Invisible Pink Unicorn The only One True Religion endorsed by the Pool Cleaners from Distant Planets.
the Church of the SubGenius The only One True Religion endorsed by the Pool Cleaners from Distant Planets.
the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry Formerly known as the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal. They're one of the main reasons we had to make our human cover identities completely impenetrable.
Computer Stupidities Cup holders, foot pedals, refrigerator magnets, and more -- they're all here, and most of them are probably true. Why isn't this under Humor? Because many of the accounts are very painful to read.
Harlan Ellison Love him, hate him, respect him, fear him -- whatever you do, read him.
Fark Strangely addictive site featuring news links from just about any source you can name, and entertaining comment threads about each of the links.
Firefox The favored web browser of the Pool Cleaners from Distant Planets.
the High Weirdness Project Click these links at your own risk.
H.O.P.E. The Horrified Observers of Pedestrian Entertainment want to "bring quality to the world of entertainment while working outside of" the entertainment business.
Leia's Metal Bikini Dedicated to one of the best fashion statements of all time.
Moorcock's Miscellany The official (and extensive) site of another author Rhaab enjoys.
Bill Mumy From being half of the Lumanian duo of Barnes and Barnes, to his eerily accurate portrayal of Lennier the Minbari -- as humans pretending to be aliens go, he's one of the best. Then there's all the other stuff he does, but what's the point of providing a link if we're going to tell you everything here?
Ninja Burger The best food delivery ever! If you think they're not in your neighborhood, that means they probably are.
Terry Pratchett The official guide to the worlds created by one of Earth's most creative story-tellers. Go buy all the Discworld books that you don't have already.
Robert J. Sawyer One of Rhaab's favorite authors, and the similarity in names has nothing to do with it.
SETI Institute The Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence. We haven't had the heart to tell them they can stop.
the Smoking Gun Come on, don't tell us you haven't heard of this one.
Spybot Search & Destroy Home page of Spybot S&D, which is free and effective anti-spyware software.
Stop Badware This organization is dedicated to fighting spyware, malware, deceptive adware and other types of malicious software. Their slogan is "Regaining Control of Our Computers".
View Askew Everything you ever wanted to know (and maybe some things you didn't) about the creations of Kevin Smith and his twisted friends.
Wil Wheaton Yes, his character was a severely annoying tool and the King of the Mary Sues, but the guy himself is geeky in a good way and actually kinda cool.
- Music - Colorado -
99.5 the Mountain A good radio station in general, but especially noteworthy for their Mountain Homegrown show: two hours of local music every Monday night. We actually got to be on the show once.
the Bad Directions We put this link here so their band members can find their way back to their homepage. They play some rock, and some music best described as "punktry".
Colcannon If you're really serious about Celtic music, strip away the rock and try some of the traditional sound. They're even fair-minded enough to do English folk songs.
Colorado Music Buzz The website of and online companion to the new Colorado Music Buzz magazine. Both the magazine and site are still fairly new, and we think they show a lot of promise.
Elana Rogers and the Reason We've heard rumors that some people still don't give enough respect to female-fronted bands; Elana and her band are our latest fill-in to the blank in the response, "You obviously haven't heard _____!"
the Epilogues Winners of the very first "Get A Leg Up" Battle of the Bands. Proof that you can actually get somewhere with skill and hard work.
the Indulgers Celtic rockers who are very accepting of aliens. To them, the Pool Cleaners from Distant Planets are simply known as "the Lads". If you're already a fan, then you'll also find this page interesting--we promise you.
Inlay Entertainment A Denver-based music production company, but a quick glance at their production credits will show you they're not limited to just local projects. You're probably making a good choice buying anything they sell.
the Jill Watkins Band The webhome for the band led by the closest thing to Jessica Rabbit we've seen in real life. Jill can sing the blues, play the trumpet and puts on a great show with originals mixed with covers of old blues and bluesy rock songs.
Mile High Music Store The absolute best source (other than going to lots and lots of shows) for all of your Colorado music needs.
Opie Gone Bad The band that inspired our first video. If you're low on funk, they willingly give it up. The guys in this group are simultaneously among the best and humblest in the area.
Planet O A band that wears many hats, musically speaking. Or literally, in the case of their energetic and dangerous guitarist.
the Railbenders An authentic country band so good that even hard rockers, punks, and metalheads don't have to feel guilty about tapping their feet. Speaking of metal, they've got a great country cover of "Crazy Train".
the Receders "Not another hair band." Primarily a cover act, and an exceptional one. Check 'em out.
Rock On Colorado A group of folks who take music at least as seriously as we do, if not more. Lots of info, tons of photos of all your favorite local musicians, plus a message board for performers and fans alike.
Savage Henry A high-energy, highly proficient band that happens to have two members from one of our old favorite groups, On Second Thought.
Soul School Half the Opie Gone Bad roster plus several other talented musicians equals one fantastic soul/R&B/funk cover group.
Spiv A band that remembers what rock and roll is all about. Every rock fan needs to hear "Everybody's a Rock Star Tonight" at some point in their lives.
the Trailer Park Playboys They're just livin' the American dream and playin' the honky-tonks, baby. Live shows come complete with pink flamingos.
Witch Mountain Bridge One of the best new bands we've seen in a long, long time; they have a Fleetwood Mac sound and feel to their work.
Wendy Woo Capable of doing quite a bit with just her voice and an acoustic guitar, even when she doesn't use it as a percussion instrument. Then she goes and performs with her band, just to keep you on your toes.
Yerkish One of the most interesting (and difficult to describe) bands we've seen in a while.
- Music - Everywhere Else -
AC/DC They've got the biggest balls of them all, so we salute them.
Aerosmith One of the best examples we know of a group with cross-generational appeal.
Barnes & Barnes Fellow aliens, and responsible for so much more than just "Fish Heads".
the Beach Boys Anyone who dares to call "Good Vibrations" anything less than a work of art is going to have to step outside.
the Beatles The immortal Fab Four.
Blue Oyster Cult The intellectual's hard rock band. Seriously -- just listen to the lyrics. They also put on a great live show.
David Bowie He's done so many different things and been so many different people that we're not even going to try to describe him or his music.
Johnny Cash The late, great Man in Black.
Cheap Trick Some guys from Illinois who are the next best thing to giant robots in Japan. Go figure. Pretty under-rated in the United States, though.
Eric Clapton Quite possibly the best guitar player of all time.
the Clash Passionate politics and powerful punk.
Elvis Costello Not only has he tried just most of the major musical styles, he keeps getting away with it.
Marshall Crenshaw What do you mean, you've never heard of him? You're really missing out.
Devo Are we not men? Well, actually, we're not, but that doesn't stop us from appreciating these guys.
the Eagles We're still not really sure why they dropped Don Felder.
Eddie from Ohio Difficult to describe properly; visit the site and click on the "Press" link for a few attempts at doing so.
Electric Light Orchestra Listen in awe to the brilliance of Jeff Lynne.
Fleetwood Mac One of several British Blues bands that transformed into something else over the years.
John Fogerty The creative force behind Creedence Clearwater Revival, and he hasn't stopped creating in the years since. He also puts on a better live show than some men half his age.
J. Geils Band Did you know the harmonica player went by the name of "Magic Dick"? Really.
Great Big Sea Another take on Celtic rock, from "tropical" Newfoundland. This band consistently flies up the Canadian charts every time they release an album.
Green Day In our opinion, one of the few bands with any real worth to come out of the 1990s.
Buddy Holly An often overlooked pioneer of rock and roll. We've often wondered where he would have gone musically if he hadn't died so young.
Jethro Tull Yes, that's a flute in Ian's pocket, but he's happy to see you anyway. Not actually a heavy metal band, despite what certain music award organizations would have you believe.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts We love rock and roll. Sadly, jukeboxes that take dimes are difficult to find these days.
Mark Knopfler Former front man of Dire Straits, and an incredible solo artist in his own right. Two of the Pool Cleaners had a near-religious experience when they saw him play at Red Rocks.
Led Zeppelin Maybe you've heard of these guys.
the Steve Miller band Some people call him Maurice.
the Moody Blues Now opening for " the Satin Knights" in Vegas last we heard, but that might be an error.
NWH Easily one of the most influential rap groups of all time, but never one of the most popular, for some reason. NWH is to rap what Spinal Tap is to heavy metal, or what the Rutles were to the British Invasion -- which, of course, is high praise indeed.
Mark O'Connor A fantastic violinist, a great composer and a strong advocate of music in general. He has two week-long education camps for string players. The Nashville conference focuses on fiddling, and the San Diego conference is about string music in general.
Roy Orbison Another one of the great rock pioneers.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Lots of great songs over the years, and another noteworthy act seen at Red Rocks.
the Prodigals From Ireland by way of New York city, this band does not just Celtic rock, but jig-punk. It means just what you think it means. It's worth standing for two hours out on a snowy ski slope for one of their shows.
Queen One of the most amazing bands ever, yet the US audience never really seemed to give them the acclaim they deserved. We still miss you, Freddie. (Don't talk to us about this other guy.)
the Ramones What can we say about these punk pioneers that hasn't already been said?
the Rutles The Prefab Four. In the words of their own website, "The Rutles are a legend. A living legend. A legend that will live long after other living legends have died."
Slade How did such a fun, energetic British band never made it past one-hit wonder status in the USA?
the Smithereens Go buy their "best of" album right now!
Spinal Tap Learn the true meaning of "Majesty of Rock, The".
Nina Storey Can you believe that voice comes out of someone who looks like that? Both her voice and looks are exceptional, but they don't seem to match up.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra The band best known for the hard-rocking musical piece, "Christmas Eve in Sarajevo". Believe it or not, they have more than just one song, and they play more than just Christmas music.
the Who One of the best bands to come out of the British Invasion era. This entry is actually a portion of Pete Townshend's website, which is worth checking out for his solo material.
Mark Wood Mark Wood is one of the finest string musicians on Earth, and a major part of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. He writes and performs fine original music as well.
Wood Violins Need an electric violin, viola or cello? You'd be hard pressed to find a better instrument. Myk highly recommends them.
"Weird Al" Yankovic Why is this man so under-rated, especially given his impressive musical and lyrical talent, and the amazing flexibility of the guys in his band?
the Young Dubliners High-energy, hard-drinkin' Celtic rock band from Los Angeles. Keith, the lead singer, is your best friend as soon as you meet him.
Warren Zevon No one wrote lyrics quite like the Excitable Boy did. Keep him in your heart for a while.
- Places To Go -
Bender's Tavern This fine neighborhood tavern also has a nice separate room for live music. They bring in good bands and there's never a cover if you just want to stop by for some drinks.
Black and Read New and used books, movies, music (including an impressive record collection), RPG supplies, and lots of other cool stuff besides.
Boulder Book Store One of the great independent bookstores that we're lucky enough to have in the area.
Capitol Hill Books A place that specializes in rare and used books. You might be surprised by what you can find here.
Cheapo Discs Sadly, they're down to only one location in Colorado, but they're also in six other states (and one Canadian province) and still one of your best hook-ups for used CDs of all sorts.
Go Travel Bug A personal friend of the Pool Cleaners wants to help you with your terrestrial travel needs.
the Gothic Theatre In our opinion, the best medium-sized music venue there is out of all the places we've visited, hands down, no question, that's it, game over.
the Oriental Theater Whether you go there for concerts, classic movies, or other entertainment, be sure you take a little time to look at the beautiful building, too.
Patrick's Night Club A nice little music-friendly place in Aurora, Colorado. Good sound, good service, good food -- try the appetizer sampler.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre A legendary temple to the worship of music, and a beautiful park besides. There's a reason why people keep shooting concert videos here.
Second Spin Their largest store (and the only one outside of California) is right here in Denver. A fantastic place for used and new CDs, DVDs, and games.
the Tattered Cover Book Store Just walking into any of the locations of this independent bookstore is enough to make any true book-lover drool.
the Toad Tavern One of the best places to go for Denver music. Weekend shows feature low covers, free pizza, and just about any local band you care to name.
Twist and Shout and Wax Trax If you can't find the music you're looking for, one of these amazing independent music stores either has it already or can find it for you. If they can't find it, it probably doesn't exist.
